about
Started out as a songwriting template based on a certain Dimmu Borgir song... then it got a calypso mid section and then all bets were off.
Lyrics wise 2020 has been a hell of a year with some very black moments personally. This song is slightly themed around mental health generally and my experiences of searching for reasons "why", when maybe that isn't so important when compared to "what next".
What? Not inspired by a Star Trek epesode? errmm... ok then, The Wire. Why not
lyrics
Horrors I behold, A wicked evil man
An avatar of hate that I despise
Reflections tell no lies, that wicked man is I
A voyager of the mind I search for reason for these scars
So take a breath and dive into the ocean
As memory resurface, a final chance to grow
If only I can tolerate the pressure down below
Down you break the surface
The tension will not hold
Your dark, an invitation, an explanation,
A chance to salt all the old wounds
A liar, you deserve this
Decrier, you know precisely what you've done
You're weakness all encompassing, there no exception
There's no redemption here for what you have become
Black behind the eyes
Your bridges burned, the walls are strong that you erected
Fear is all you find
Crawl on forward, alone, you deep submariner
Now give your faith to me
That I can hold your hand
The wonders here to see, not lost but still forgotten
Resplendent in grotesquery, these sights I have to show
Time to break, the world awakes
Behold, a nebular of colours shine above
We're here today, our time's today, tomorrow is so far away
So now, so here we stand, we strive,
We are alive
Black behind the eyes
Your bridges burned, the walls are strong that you erected
Fear is all you find
Crawl on forward, alone, you deep submariner
Rise and break the surface
The tension cannot hold
Your dark, no explanation
But revelation, the dream may now unfurl
Now give your faith to me
That I can hold your hand
The wonders here to see, not lost but still forgotten
Resplendent in grotesquery, these sights I have to show
A voyager of the mind I search for reason for these scars
So take a breath and dive into the ocean
As memory resurface, a final chance to grow
If only I can tolerate the pressure down below

Streamlining their post-metal sprawl through a sharper melodic focus, the Scottish juggernauts' third LP is labyrinthine yet approachable. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 25, 2024
